Forever Romance

I've been looking at the beautiful pictures from Charles W Cushman.
An archive of such varied and brilliant photographs. This collection of photographs of Al Swanson and future Mrs. Swanson in garden of Wooded Island, Jackson park Chicago in 1944, immediately caught my eye.
Old fashioned love, the look in both faces makes me smile. Yes I am a soppy git, my friends would definitely agree with this, but these photo's just make me happy.

What a pair of babes. Real people, and real love. Forever.

ABC

I’ll never find out now
What A. thought of me.
If B. ever forgave me in the end.
Why C. pretended everything was fine.
What part D. played in E.’s silence.
What F. had been expecting, if anything.
Why G. forgot when she knew perfectly well.
What H. had to hide.
What I. wanted to add.
If my being around
meant anything
to J. and K. and the rest of the alphabet.
Wislawa Szymborska, 1923-2012.

Born to be a Soulie.

I'm sure lots of people feel they were born in the wrong era, I definately was.
The mid 70's in Leeds is where I want to be. Going to the central and dancing for hours is what I would be doing if I had a time machine.

I found out about Northern Soul the film and knew I had to work on it. I went to a screen test the other day and meeting the people who are working on the film was magical. To be in a room surrounded by people who loved the music as much as me was amazing. I've never met people my age who have the passion that I have for northern soul, and it was a little surreal to have hear them sing along to some of the songs. Now I just need to pluck up the courage to go along to one of the all nighters and learn some of the dance moves.

A soldiers life is terribly hard, says Alice.

Glamours shoot from October 2010 shows Felicity Jones looking beautiful with her dreamy man in uniform.
As an Alice the song 'The Changing Guards at Buckingham Palace' was sung to me repeatedly as a child.
And unlike other awful songs about 'living next door to Alice', I always had a soft spot for the song.

An old fashioned, very British world, is where I want to live. I also wouldn't mind looking like Flic.

Skills.

After a routine internet scour session, I stumbled across a Mr. Wil Freeborn, and was inspired to draw again. I haven't had a good scribble in a while and after looking at his beautiful illustrations, I have the sketch itch.

Wil carries around a moleskin where ever he goes and then whips it out on a whim, pulls up a pew and starts to draw.

Two things that I particularly love are:

One: The way he thinks about the composition of the drawing on his double page, whether its a small sketch, an image inventory or a full on painting.
Two: The idea of piles of full moleskins all stacked together, with the pages all slightly wrinkly and curly from the paint, making the tiny books bulge.

The Daily Swoon.

Having just browsed some of my favourite blogs out there I came across Carven, and Carven's 2012 Summer collection.
And I think I've found him, my dream man... Well the way my dream man would dress anyway. Stylish, old-fashioned and understated.

Oh and hang on a second, how will I dress when I meet this man? That is easy, I'll just slip into one of Carvens Summer 2012 outfits. Neat, smart but quirky, with geographic prints and saturated colours. And of course bows on my feet!

Old Fashioned Romance.

Ellen Rogers is a London based photographer fashion photographer. Through her work, Rogers creates timeless dream worlds where temptresses seduce and lure you into unknown, dark lands. A firm believer in the art of analogue photography, Rogers does not utilize any digital equipment or computer based manipulation (other than scanning the end result) and has developed most techniques through experimentation with traditional darkroom processes.

I think I do tend to look through rosy-coloured glasses.
Perhaps this is a reason to keep on doing it.

Stunning colours and so magical, Ellen's work is pure romance.
