Soul Boy

I am a huge Northern Soul fan and was so excited when my Dad, a true soul boy, told me that this film was in the process of being made. I can't wait, if only to hear the soundtrack and watch the daft dancing.

A New Hero.

"Appreciation for costume design is like gardening. When you begin you like the big bright flowers and as time progresses you like the smaller ones. Then you appreciate just the leaves, and eventually just the underneath of the leaves. "

Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis

Having just attended a lecture with this amazing woman 'Reel People: Character, Cinema and Costume Design", I am feeling inspired and, personally never wanted to be a costume designer more. I want to be able to create the costumes that no one notices and that are integral to the story, because as Deborah says: "Character comes first!".

Real People

One thing that I love to do is draw people. Real People you see on the tube, at a bus stop or just walking around.
I constantly wish I had the ability to take pictures with my eyes, so that I could print 1,000's of pictures of people and catalogue them in a huge library with sections entitled "old frail men", "sever-looking women" and "sleeping tramps". One person who also has this love is
Here are some of his brill sketches that caught my eye:

I love this one where Vince has studied the movements of dancers.

This bloke just makes me smile, what a lovely capture of character.

When this degree is over and my life has some form of normality I will go out and scribble Mr and Mrs public on thick cream coloured paper in different coloured pencils.

My Perfect Tea.

Ok, so I'm going to say it. I do not like tea. It's just funny tasting hot water to me. However... I have found the perfect tea for me. Russian designer Natalia Ponomareva has created an origami (yes origami!) bird (to those who know me you know how much I love birds) tea bag. I could just sit and look at it all day long. Just imagine the colour bleeding from this petit oiseau into the hot water.

The Beginning

My first post, and I am feeling the pressure. So I thought I would go with an old reliable. Doris. Doris Day knows what it is all about and I thought I would pay tribute to her. Que sera sera Doris. Que sera sera everyone.
