A soldiers life is terribly hard, says Alice.

Glamours shoot from October 2010 shows Felicity Jones looking beautiful with her dreamy man in uniform.
As an Alice the song 'The Changing Guards at Buckingham Palace' was sung to me repeatedly as a child.
And unlike other awful songs about 'living next door to Alice', I always had a soft spot for the song.

An old fashioned, very British world, is where I want to live. I also wouldn't mind looking like Flic.

Skills.

After a routine internet scour session, I stumbled across a Mr. Wil Freeborn, and was inspired to draw again. I haven't had a good scribble in a while and after looking at his beautiful illustrations, I have the sketch itch.

Wil carries around a moleskin where ever he goes and then whips it out on a whim, pulls up a pew and starts to draw.

Two things that I particularly love are:

One: The way he thinks about the composition of the drawing on his double page, whether its a small sketch, an image inventory or a full on painting.
Two: The idea of piles of full moleskins all stacked together, with the pages all slightly wrinkly and curly from the paint, making the tiny books bulge.

The Daily Swoon.

Having just browsed some of my favourite blogs out there I came across Carven, and Carven's 2012 Summer collection.
And I think I've found him, my dream man... Well the way my dream man would dress anyway. Stylish, old-fashioned and understated.

Oh and hang on a second, how will I dress when I meet this man? That is easy, I'll just slip into one of Carvens Summer 2012 outfits. Neat, smart but quirky, with geographic prints and saturated colours. And of course bows on my feet!

Old Fashioned Romance.

Ellen Rogers is a London based photographer fashion photographer. Through her work, Rogers creates timeless dream worlds where temptresses seduce and lure you into unknown, dark lands. A firm believer in the art of analogue photography, Rogers does not utilize any digital equipment or computer based manipulation (other than scanning the end result) and has developed most techniques through experimentation with traditional darkroom processes.

I think I do tend to look through rosy-coloured glasses.
Perhaps this is a reason to keep on doing it.

Stunning colours and so magical, Ellen's work is pure romance.

I'm not here to talk about that, I'm here to talk about this.

Yep, I'm not talking about this. Mainly because I haven't seen it yet, hopefully this will be rectified by the end of this week. It looks so delicious. Like an equation for heaven:

Bobby Pattinson + 1930's + American circus + controlled colour palette = well, heaven!

So... yeah I mean I am going to actually talk about Broadwalk Empire.
Set in New Jersey, NY during the prohibition on the 1920s (including some speakeasys!), HBO have created a TV drama which is brilliant. Think grubby Mad Men combined with Steve Buscemi.

I've only watched the first episode but I just had to write about it.
As a child I LOVED old Hollywood musicals and feel that that 'glossed over' beauty is missing in today's films and television. But this is really close. Rich colours and textures of pearls, braiding, diamonds and embroidery make an edible wardrobe for the brilliant characters.

A pretty picture for your wall.

This stunning wall painting is by the two artists Supakitch and Koralie.

This is the kind of thing I would love to do. And it must be so satisfying to see something like this come together. I want a wall, lots of spare time, a marker, paint, a beautiful brush and an idea. That and a dreamily beautiful, moody tattooed man...

Spook or fluke?

Man with the spirit of his deceased second wife.

A woman's face appears in 'misty' drapes around the man. He was said to have been asked to sit for a photograph by a voice heard at a seance held on 6 May 1923. This man had also identified the 'spirit' of his deceased first wife in an earlier photograph.

This collection of pictures is from the Science and Society Picture Library. I stumbled across them whilst hunting for pictures from flickr. Aren't they so beautifully chilling?

Man with the spirit of his deceased first wife.

A woman's face appears in a 'misty' cloud to the right of the man - identified as that of his deceased first wife. Hope may have already held her photograph in his studio, or he may have asked the man to supply her photograph under the pretence of using the image to contact the spirit world.

Man with spirit.

Woman with two boys and a female spirit.

Haux or real... I don't want to know. I find them magical.

Saadiq, Ce Chic.

In April poppa Speak and I will be going to see Raphael Saadiq. And I am so excited! I just love that he isn't afraid to make music that immediately sounds old.

His new album 'Stone Rollin' is a follow up to his previous album 'The Way I See It', one of my favourite albums of all time. Not listened to it yet? Then sort it out. Get listening...

On another note, I want to be his stylist, just look at these delicious colour palettes and stylised costumes? Good stuff.

Flat Pack.

I was talking to my friend the other day and she found it really difficult to imagine what a 3D object would look like flat. Floorplans and nets baffled her. One girl who understands transforming 3D to 2D is Holly Somers. Using 3D shapes she creates the nets for them and then drapes them over the body.

Holly Somers is a girl I studied at foundation with and have just stumbled over her work, and glowed with pride. She has just graduated from LCF and her final year collection is just lovely. With muted earthy tones this simple and classic fashion collection is beautiful.

I completely love this! It's so sculptural and different.
